China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) was founded in 2000. Devoted to becoming China’s top orchestra as well as a leading figure in Asia with international reputation, the CPO has achieved an astonishing leap forward and won wide attention home and abroad. In the spring of 2009, the CPO was named Most Inspiring Orchestras by Gramophone online, joining the glittering array of ten fellow orchestras including Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Well recognized as one of the most outstanding Chinese violinists today, Siqing Lu (pronounced See-Ching Lyu) was the first Asian violinist to win the prize at the Paganini Competition in 1987. He is praised by western media as "an outstanding violin genius". His version of "The Butterfly Lovers" is affirmed to be the best. Given that the year of 2019 is the 60th anniversary of "The Butterfly Lovers", Siqing Lu will perform the special edition "The Butterfly Lovers" for our concert.
Hailed as the “most powerful figure in China’s classical music scene” by The New York Times, the preeminent Chinese conductor Long Yu holds positions as the Artistic Director & Chief Conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Music Director of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. He is the Co-Director of the MISA Summer Festival in Shanghai. He is also the Principal Guest Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Maestro Yu is the Founder of the Beijing Music Festival and was its Artistic Director from 1998 to 2018.
